BALL VALVEINSTALLATION GUIDE
For Merrill threaded, poly insert & PVC ball valves
A secure connection. A reliable water shutoff.
For 304 stainless steel, no-lead brass and PVC models. Choose the correct connection method.
Before You Start
Match the Valve to the Pipe
Verify pipe size and connection: threaded metal (BBVNL / SSBV), PE insert (BBVINL / SSVI), or PVC. Confirm service rating and potable-water suitability.
Get Ready to Install
Have an upstream shutoff, pipe cutter/deburrer, supports, two wrenches, and the correct joint materials. Confirm accessible handle clearance.
5 Simple Steps
Shut Off & Relieve Pressure
Shut off the upstream water supply. Open a downstream faucet and confirm the line is fully depressurized and drained before cutting.
Check the Valve & Its Position
Inspect ports and seats. Test the quarter-turn handle: inline = open, across = closed. Leave clearance to operate the valve after installation.
Cut, Clean & Align the Pipe
Measure and cut the pipe square; remove burrs and debris. Dry-fit the assembly. Support both pipe runs so the valve is not forced into alignment.
Make the Correct Connection
Use the connection-specific instructions in “Match the Connection.” On threaded metal valves, start by hand and counterhold near the joint with a second wrench.
Restore Water & Test
Restore pressure slowly and bleed air. Inspect both joints, stem and body for leaks. Verify full open and closed positions without forcing the handle.
