What size hose clamp do I need?
Measure the hose outside diameter where the clamp will sit and choose a clamp whose stated range places that measurement near the middle—not at the very edge. Matching the actual hose OD to the clamp range helps create a secure fit and reduces the risk of leaks.
Are stainless steel or zinc-plated clamps better for water systems?
Stainless steel is the better choice for wells, pumps, irrigation, plumbing, and other wet or outdoor applications because it resists rust and typically lasts longer. Zinc-plated clamps are generally better suited for dry, indoor, and lower-risk applications.
How do I install a hose clamp so it does not leak?
Slide the clamp onto the hose before seating the hose on the fitting. Position it just behind the fitting barb or raised ridge, then tighten it evenly until snug. Do not overtighten, over-compress, or cut into the hose. On critical lines, two clamps may be used with the screw housings slightly offset.
What clamp is best for high-pressure water and pump applications?
Stainless steel worm-drive or T-bolt clamps are commonly used for higher-pressure and high-vibration applications such as pump discharge lines and water-system connections. Avoid thin, low-quality clamps on applications exposed to significant pressure, movement, or vibration.
Can hose clamps be reused?
A quality stainless steel worm-drive clamp may be reused if it is not rusted, stripped, bent, or otherwise damaged. Replace any clamp with corrosion, a stripped screw, a distorted band, or visible wear. Single-use ear and crimp clamps should not be reused.
