CURB STOPINSTALLATION GUIDE

For Merrill curb stop ball valves, riser pipe & cap

Install, access & shut off buried water service lines.

Stainless steel or no-lead brass. Insert or female-threaded connections. Optional riser pipe and cap.

Before You Start

Confirm the Setup

Select the valve type, pipe size and burial depth for your application. Check local water service requirements and obtain any necessary permits.

Gather Tools & Materials

Shutoff tools, approved pipe and fittings, clamps or thread sealant (as required), and pressure-test equipment.

5 Simple Steps

  1. Plan the Location

Install the curb stop in the underground water service line where it will remain accessible from grade. Allow room for the operator and riser.

  2. Shut Off & Prepare

Shut off the upstream water source, relieve pressure, excavate safely, and keep the trench stable.

  3. Connect the Curb Stop

Follow the valve flow/orientation as applicable. For insert-barb valves, connect to PE service pipe using approved clamps/fittings. For female-threaded valves, use proper threaded adapters and sealant. Support and align the service line.

  4. Install the Riser Pipe

If using a riser pipe, telescope it to the correct burial depth, seat it over the valve handle, align vertically, and tighten the stainless hose clamp. Keep the top cap at finish grade.

  5. Test & Backfill

Slowly restore water, inspect for leaks, verify shutoff operation with the curb stop tool, then backfill and protect the assembly from damage.
