INSERT FITTINGS & CLAMPSINSTALLATION GUIDE
For Merrill barbed insert fittings & hose clamps
A secure connection. A stronger hold.
For polyethylene (PE) water pipe. Match the insert fitting, pipe and clamp before installing.
Before You Start
Match the Pipe & Fitting
Check PE pipe type, inside diameter and pressure rating. Use a true PE insert fitting of the correct size—not a generic hose barb.
Choose the Right Clamp
Measure the assembled pipe outside diameter. Select a rated stainless-steel clamp with a matching size range and suitable corrosion resistance.
5 Simple Steps
Shut Off, Cut & Clean the Pipe
Shut off water and pump power as needed. Relieve pressure and drain. Cut PE pipe square; remove burrs, damage and debris.
Slide the Clamp(s) on First
Use the clamp quantity approved for the joint (usually two). Place the correct-size clamps loosely on the pipe before inserting the fitting.
Seat the Fitting Past All Barbs
Push the pipe straight onto the full insert length. If permitted, soften stiff PE with warm water—never an open flame.
Position & Tighten the Clamps
Keep each band squarely over pipe supported by the insert, away from the pipe edge. Tighten evenly per clamp instructions; do not crush the pipe. When using two clamps, use only if the insert is long enough and position screw housings about 180 degrees apart.
Restore Pressure & Test
Bring water back slowly. Inspect for leaks and movement. Test before burial or lowering a pump; protect exposed clamp ends near cables.
