R-6000 Yard Hydrant
Leaking From the Nozzle?

Customer Support | Troubleshooting Guide

A simple guide to help stop a leak from the nozzle.

Is Your Hydrant Actually Leaking?

A little water draining after shutoff is normal. If it keeps leaking after drainage stops, follow these steps.

Don't Dig Up Your Yard Hydrant!

Most nozzle leaks can be fixed from the top. Digging is usually only needed if the valve body or standpipe is damaged.

What You'll Need

Two 9/16" wrenches

How to Fix It

  1. Find the Adjusting Nuts

R-6000 adjusting nuts on the threaded rod above the hydrant head

Locate the adjusting nuts on the threaded rod above the hydrant head.

  2. Raise the Nuts ¼ Turn

Using two 9/16-inch wrenches to raise the R-6000 adjusting nuts

Use two 9/16" wrenches to raise the adjusting nuts just ¼ turn. This lowers the plunger slightly to help stop the leak. Small adjustments are better.

  3. Shut It Off and Check

Testing the R-6000 hydrant nozzle after adjustment

Turn the hydrant on, then shut it back off. Check whether water keeps leaking from the nozzle after normal drainage.
