SEDIMENT FILTERINSTALLATION GUIDE
For Merrill spin-down & sediment trapper filters
Remove sand & grit before it reaches your system.
For cold-water service. 1", 1-1/2" and 2" slip-connection models. Reusable screen with bottom flush valve.
Before You Start
Confirm the Setup
Choose the correct pipe size, flow range and mesh. For a typical home well, locate the filter on the cold-water main after the pressure tank / pressure switch and before downstream treatment.
Prepare the Area
Shut off the water supply and pump power as applicable; open a faucet to release pressure. Have approved fittings, PVC solvent cement, a safe flush route and room to remove the bowl.
5 Simple Steps
Choose the Location
Mount where it can be reached for flushing and cleaning. Keep the clear bowl facing down, allow service clearance and protect from freezing, heat, sunlight and impact.
Shut Off & Depressurize
Disconnect pump power or close the supply valve. Open a nearby faucet, verify line pressure is relieved and drain the pipe before cutting.
Connect the Filter Body
Dry-fit and support piping; follow the flow arrow on the body. For slip connections, remove the clear bowl before gluing. Use approved PVC primer/cement and allow full cure.
Reassemble & Route Flush Water
Seat the screen and clean O-rings; reinstall the clear bowl securely by hand. Keep the flush valve closed and provide a bucket or code-compliant drain with an air gap.
Restore Flow & Check for Leaks
Open water slowly. Inspect all joints, housing and flush valve for leaks. Check normal water flow; briefly open the bottom flush valve to purge debris, then close it.
